Backstory
Born the son of Chinese immigrants in Mercury City, where Sun's peers became increasingly Americanized, Sun instead idealized his parents' homeland. An immense fan of Chinese wuxia movies, he studied martial arts extensively as a child and a teenager. Having hoped to someday return to China as a child, he was crushed by the collapse of the PRC, and spent most of his early teenage years as an anti-Chinese Occupation activist. He eventually became a spokesperson of sorts for the Free China Society in Mercury City.
When the Golden Dragon Triad first arrived in Mercury City, they approached Sun in the hopes of working with him. Disillusioned by the apparent ineffectiveness of the Free China Society, he happily joined the Triad as a soldier. He participated in several conflicts with the Syndicate at first, but his rise did not truly begin until Grand General Shang selected him as the test subject for Neijin.
Neijin, a drug developed for the Triad by the supervillain Doctor Insidious, was designed to create supersoldiers for the Triad by granting them superhuman speed, agility, reflexes, regeneration, and stamina. Sun happily volunteered, claiming the name "The Youxia," and undergoing the initial tests.
The results were beyond anything the Triad could have hoped for. Not only did he gain the promised superpowers but, unlike every other test user, he did not die from an overdose within the next few weeks. While Neijin went into mass-production at safer doses for the average, front-line soldiers, Sun's ability to survive such large doses made him an invaluable asset, and he was made a captain and one of Shang's right-hand men.
Other:
The Youxia is addicted to Neijin, and as a result depends on the Golden Dragon Triad for his supply of it. The Triad has never had to use his addiction to control him, but certainly wouldn't hestitate should he ever show signs of betraying the Triad. He is naturally very loyal to the Triad, but the hallucinations and compulsions caused by Neijin occasionally cause him to go rogue, performing the occasional heroic act or good deed. He also enjoys posing on rooftops while announcing his presence.
He specializes in hand-to-hand combat, and is a master of several martial arts styles, which he blends seamlessly to devastating effect. His powers and training give him a limited ability to deflect and dodge bullets, though he is not completely immune to them. While he prefers unarmed combat, he is also an adept swordsman. He despises firearms as cowardly weapons and refuses to use them.
As a Triad Captain, Sun enjoys the support of his squad, and occasionally multiple squads when acting as a first captain.
