Military Organization
Full Name: United States Special Operations Command
Abbreviations/Colloquialisms: USSOCOM, SOCOM, 'the Special Forces'
Year Founded: 1987
Total Personnel: 50,000
Budget: High
Technological Level: High to Super
Notoriety/Fame: Common
Objective: To provide fully capable Special Operations Forces to defend the United States and its interests and plan and synchronize operations against terrorist networks
Cover (optional): None
History:
Founded in 1987 to provide a unified command structure for special forces from within the Army, Air Force, and Navy, USSOCOM was originally split into sevaral subordinate commands. The original four subsection commands were United States Special Operations Command (USASOC), Naval Special Warfare Command (NAVSOC), Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), and Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).
The Marines, who regarded themselves as superior to other soldiery, only joined the USSOCOM in 2005, adding Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) to the list to fill it out to five commands, four for each primary arm of the military, and one combined command.
In recent years, due to the rise of supers in society, and in international terrorism, USSOCOM was driven to open the sixth branch of its Special Operations, the Enhanced Warfare Special Operations Command (ESOC), a branch specifically created to train, defend against, and to deploy supers. Still relatively small, having been founded in 2020, the ESOC only features around 2000 personnel, total, and out of that features only 200 combat personnel. Nonetheless, it is one of the more visible branches of the Special Forces, it's spectacular battles often making front page stories.
Within ESOC's 200 combat personnel are two sections. The Advanced Technologies Application Company (ATAC), and the Enhanced Human Deployment Company (ENCOM). The ATAC draws its personnel through vigorous screening procedures from other special forces commands-- to the ATAC, SEALs are nothing more than grunts, and even the brightest of Delta Force are only 'well-regarded'-- and outfits them with advanced technologies, powered armor, enhanced weaponry, cybernetic upgrades. They are, however, originally human.
Conversely, in ENCOM, it's personnel are mostly supers drawn from any branch of service. They are not held to the rigorous standards of training and vigor that ATAC is, and mostly enter as a consequence of their powers and their military service. Nonetheless, ENCOM provides advanced equipment and training to control and amplify the powers of supers.
Known Personnel: None at the moment other than public figures I don't want to name.
Known Facilities: ESOC is headquartered in Mercury City, in the ESOC HQ.
Other: Feel free to make a character in either company of ESOC, for those who want to include military service as an element of their character.
