Name: Cameron Jesse Phillips-Astin
Gender/Sex: Male
Age: 24
Height: 5’10”
Physique: Cam is definitely slender, his general body shape approximately that of a rectangle some three or four times longer than it is wide. He doesn’t have particularly broad shoulders, or a narrow waist, but he is also clearly made up of sinewy muscles which, for all that they are wiry, are highly developed. There is also an innate grace and assurance of where he is and what he is doing which is the result of years of gymnastics. His skin is rather tanned, and his features are almost what one might call sharp, although the square jaw alters this a little. All in all, it’s a very geometric sort of face, if pleasantly so. His hands are rather rough from those years of gymnastics, and they have this odd problem where the knuckles are much larger than the actual fingers. It makes wearing the class ring from Mercury University rather a pain.
Hair: Brown hair, mostly straight (although it turns up a little at the ends), falling to his shoulders
Eyes: Muddy green
Clothing description: He wears glasses. Generally he dresses rather casually, in cargo pants or jeans with a tee-shirt or a button-down Oxford with a pocket. He likes to wear green quite a bit.
Occupation: M.Eng. student at Mercury University
Home City: Originally from Walsh, lives in Mercury now.
Housing location: Apartment near the university dorms.
Backstory: Cam is, really, your totally stereotypical geek, except he can at least partially fake being normal around more mainstream types. He played video games extensively and soon learned about mod’ing them, which was the main motivation (at first) for his beginning to learn computer coding. Soon, however, he discovered he simply had a natural talent for coding and began studying it in earnest. He attended Mercury University’s School of Engineering for his undergraduate degree in EECS, where he was part of the geeky fringe community which read science fiction, LARP’d, and played D&D and GURPS and the like. Originally growing up in Walsh, Cam lived primarily with his mother after his parents’ divorce when he was quite young. His mother went on to become a lawyer, sparing little time for the child she had just barely out of college, which was in great part why she was so willing to get him the gaming systems he wanted. He often jokes in that respect his parents’ divorce was the best thing that happened to him. His dad—now an AP US History and AP Government teacher at the best local high school in Walsh—stayed in town to try to spend time with his son, even if the two barely comprehend each other ninety percent of the time. He spent a couple vacations visiting his dad’s family in Scotland, and between his father’s surreptitious poking and a family history of knowing far too much on the subject, Cam received a grounding in magical theory and application that he remains very, very silent about*. Then, about ten years ago, one of his father’s cousins moved to the US—specifically, to Blackwork. Since then he spent a lot of vacations with them. Currently he’s finishing his M.Eng in EECS and looking for a job in Mercury City.
Other: He’s a computer programming whiz—and while he doesn’t have shiny tech/magitech now, there’s no guarantee he won’t come up with it in the future.
*: Anything specific regarding the magic system will be elaborated upon once everything has been finalized.
