When young Jack Stanley wasn't in his second grade classroom, Ms. Johnston just assumed he'd been called out sick. When she phoned his parents at lunch time, the housekeeper told her that he had, indeed, gone to school that morning. Ms. Johnston merely assumed that he had cut class.
Why would Ms. Johnston suspect that earlier that morning, a stolen Mercedes pulled up next to young Jack Stanley, along with two of his schoolmates, and two men quickly and efficiently pushed them into the backseat?
Maybe she would have suspected it if she had seen one of the three notes sent, in bowes, to the personal addresses of Samuel Stanley, CEO of the Filmore Construction Company, Jason Wright, Hollywood actor, and Terra Dean, infamous Real Estate entrepreneur.
The notes were simple and clear cut - their children were taken, don't call the police, start collecting 10 million dollars, and wait for further instructions.
"P.S. - there will be no warnings."
Inside each of the boxes is one of the children's fingers.

Who knows how they got ahold of it, but somehow they did. News reports within the week were splattered with pictures of Jack Stanley all over 9 o clock news with rumors galore that he was being held ransom.
"Kidnapping? What are you talking about?" the hurried and sunken eyed Filmore Construction Company CEO said as he pushed past a mob of reporters back into his house.
"So what is the reason your son has not attended school for the last three days, Mr. Stanley?" a short black, but very loud woman shouts over the din. "And what of his classmates, Katey Staten-Wright and Harold Dean?"
"Stanley has just been sick," he comments unsuredly. "And I don't claim to know anything about Katey or Harold." He closes the door to his house.

The news and related theories spread quickly over the internet, and it caught Kacey's eye.
A ransom affair... old-fashioned perhaps, but the Filmore CEO was rich, and it wasn't hard to find out whom Katey Staten-Wright was related to. The third name was less obvious, but it didn't really matter; it didn't take a genius to put two and two together. If the perpetrator was worth her stuff, they'd have set a high price tag...
Kacey set about making a plan to get her hands on some of that money. If more news was leaked within a week that confirmed the perpetrator's identity, she'd follow that up, personally, requesting to work together. If not, she'd write up her own ransom request on top of the actual, existing one. The latter would be so much more interesting... she thought.
