The farmers' market takes place near the edge of town, traditionally lasting for a week or so for each growing season. The dates are officially set depending on the harvest and the weather.
The location is scenic (not surprisingly given the area); an open area surrounded by a ring of trees, with a handful of gaps serving as entrances. There are several roads near it leading both into the town and the countryside, as well as a gravel parking lot. Farmers have to bring and set up their own makeshift shops.

It's the summer farmers' market and Kacey is there. She's wearing a tank top and capris, something more fitting the season than her "business" dress.
The attendance is surging as was typical, so it's unlikely that she would try to shoplift; instead paying with stolen cash. (Technically, all her savings were acquired less than legally. Her bank account was slowly dwindling, but that was a different (but still pressing) issue entirely.)
As she pulls away from one stand, not entirely watching where she's going, she nearly runs into a man moving produce around. I know him, it's the naked guy with the gun! She greets the man anyway, "Hi there! You remember me?" while simultaneously reaching into her pocket (just in case...), but realizing she doesn't have her pocket knife on her and pulling her hand back out.

Fourteenth swears silently under his breath, rolling his eyes. Just what he wanted.
'Do you need some help ma'am? No? Maybe I can point you in the direction of my manager.'
He gets up on his toes and looks for the man, hoping to get out of the situation before the thief drew too much attention to them.

Kacey half-frowns, but is willing to play along. "Uh yes, I would like to speak to your manager, see what you have for sale..." she pauses, speaking more quietly, "... and whether you are who I think you are... "

Fourteenth's palms get sweaty, but he tries to keep his calm.
'I'm sure the police will be very interested in who /you/ are,' he says, narrowing his eyes.
He pulls her off to a more discreet corner, 'Look, what do you want?'

Kacey looks around and manages an innocent smile. "What do I want? I'd just like to know your relation to Ms. Southbrook. I'll leave you alone after that, honest." All answers considered, that was probably a a lie, but whatever...

Fourteenth's mind scrambles down the list of possible relations.
Brother. Too shifty, if she had parents they could confirm.
Colleague. He looked like a bum. No way he'd pull it off.
'Boyfriend.'
Fourteenth mentally curses as his fourth option comes to mind.
Friend.

"Ha, I knew it!" She says, perhaps a bit more loudly than necessary. She had some doubts based on what little she knew, but there were weirder relationships out there.
"You got a name?"

Fourteenth was beginning to get annoyed.
'Call me John,' he gives the same name that he'd given Jacobson, 'look, really now, why are you so damned fascinated with Kaylee?'
His mouth is awkward around the name.

"I'm a concerned friend, that's all. I'm Katherine, Kacey for short."
She mentally curses at giving out her own name, but it was necessary to ease ' John's ' nerves.
"D'you have any idea when Kaylee will, um, get better?"

Fourteenth, now 'John', mumbles back.
'No idea. She collapsed at the train station and no one knows why.'
Then he cocks his head.
'I didn't know friends broke into each others' houses.'

Kacey hesitates at the accusation, faking guilt. Time to plead innocent. If you keep repeating something, people might eventually buy into it...
"Like I said, I'm a concerned friend. We really had planned to meet up that day."
"If I'd known that Mis -- er, Kaylee was in a coma at the time I wouldn't have gotten concerned and 'broken in', now would I?" She fidgets some more, but for a different reason now. An accidental slip of the tongue, trying to feign familiarity, that she hopes will go unnoticed...

Fourteenth does not believe this for a second. But he himself is standing on shaky ground.
'I guess so.'
Jacobson has started calling for him now, and he leaps at the opportunity.
'Well now you know I'm there. I've got to work now, so I guess I'll see you.... around. Please don't try breaking in again. I might seriously shoot you.'

A few days after, Kaylee visits the market for groceries. She's just gotten back from the hospital, finding Fourteenth in her house and realising that she needed to refill the pantry. So, she heads out to buy the needed fresh vegetables, and planning to go to the small store for tinned food and drinks later.
