Super alias: Trommel (the 'r' is rolled, and the e is short-- "Trrrom-ull")
Gender/Sex: male
Age: 23
Height: 6’1 ½
Physique: Medium build, more wiry than bulky, but not bony—long-boned, though, mostly evident in his hands and limbs. Dark brown hair, which he leaves pretty shaggy, but not bearlike; it comes down a little over his ears, and covers the back of his neck. Light skin, no freckles, and dark eyes, a long nose. A full beard, not overly long, but thick just because that’s how his hair grows.
Costume description: Simple black clothes, light and kind of silky in feel, but very shadowy, absorb a lot of light; close-fitting; sleeves banded at the elbow, with long, loose cuffs, pants just down to the end of his ankles. He wears tight-fitting, very durable under-armor underneath his costume, as his shirt goes untucked and comes down a few inches past his waist; his shoes are simple, comfortable, all black sneakers with excellent traction. His shirt collar resembles that of the King, except that it’s black. One silver earring in his right ear, with a black quartz stone set in the bottom.
Powers/Abilities: He controls music. It’s more magic than mutant, in style; basically, the theory is that music is a force in a dimension that mankind, by and large, has not grasped yet. Alan can harness the energy of the extra-dimensional force that is music; audible music he can bend, use to his purpose. The easiest thing to do is mesmerize, sometimes hypnotize people; sometimes, he can create simple illusions, mostly lights, and, if the music is strong, or his connection to it is strong, he can sometimes do physical things with it. He can also ‘summon’ music, seemingly from nowhere; he believes it to be transmitted through his aura. This music is much harder to work with, though, almost impossible without concentration, probably because it is rooted in the fourth dimension.
Home City: Walsh
Citizen Alias: Alan O’Connell
Backstory: Alan was born in New Haven, CT, 2006. He grew up with his mother, and one sister, six years older than him. His father died shortly before he was born, an Irish painter who’d left Dublin in 2002 for a contract as a muralist for an art guild of some kind. His mother wasn’t overly prying, nor was she overly emotional, and his sister was the one who noticed his musical passions as a child. When he was eight, she convinced their mother to buy him a guitar (which actually didn’t take much convincing, since she had no idea what to get him; even as a young child, Alan had started to withdraw into himself). He never needed lessons, and by the time he was ten, he was writing songs, singing in his boyish voice along with the chords.
The basic drumbeats which crept into his music were never noticed, but he saved his allowance and bought himself a djembe; by the time he was ten, he had amassed a small collection and a habit of trawling tag sales whenever he had a free weekend, with his two best friends, Jake and Lynn, who were also artists; Jake was an excellent drummer and a passable bass player, often provided criticisms and back-up on his songs, and Lynn could dance better than anyone either of them knew, and was good in a pinch for lyrics. They went through middle school together, but the summer before freshman year, Lynn moved away, and Jake went into an academy for artists, which essentially divided their schedules; Alan could not give up the school marching band, and stayed in the regular high school.
Music began to consume his life, and although he was not friendless, he never managed to find anyone as close to his heart as Jake and Lynn had been. He began to close off, emotionally, withdrawing into the world which he understood. Girls occasionally went after him, and for a while he sought solace in nights of close-bodied dancing on dark-lit floors, but dates rarely lasted longer than a few months, and by the time graduation came, he had gone to the prom with a good friend on one arm, and said goodbye to the entire social world. His teachers had pushed him to apply to colleges, and he had, but without any real desire behind it, and no college grabbed his attention… so he rejected the four which accepted him, and got a full-time job working at the Peabody Museum, as a security guard. By night, he would go out to cafés and clubs and concerts, anywhere he could find a good music scene; Savin Rock became a favorite place.
It was around this time that Alan began to realize that he had a power connected to music which he didn’t quite understand yet; he started exploring it, testing his limits. As with most skills, with practice, he improved. He began to chafe at the sameness of his lifestyle, often quarreling with his mother; his sister had by now gotten married, and was living in New Jersey as a math teacher. After two years of this, he finally had enough, and sold everything he had, including his car (and immediately bought a full-sized, dark green van), and all of his musical instruments, which he packed into the back of the van, which he had previously stripped, and started driving. It was on this journey that he discovered the extent of his powers. Sometimes, he would listen to the radio, and pull power out of the sounds; sometimes, he sang, and figured stuff out with that; on occasion, when the mood took him, he would pull over and play something on one of his instruments. The djembe became his favorite for experiment: he would find a soft rhythm, allow his consciousness to completely focus, and reach for a part of his mind and soul that had begun to grow stronger, under training. It was with the djembe that he learned how to create back-up sounds (on purpose, that is, not counting the beats in his music as a child), and with the djembe and tambourine that he learned how to make light.
After a few months of wandering, he found an apartment in Walsh, and settled in. He now has a part-time job at a juice-stand, selling superfruit juces, and with the rest of his time, goes busking on streetcorners. This was how he learned that he could put a very powerful Suggestion into his music, and eventually, went so far as to hypnotize people with elaborate tunes. He doesn’t use this often, it clashes with his conscience a bit; he’s rarely that desperate for cash. A few months ago, his powers well-tuned, Alan decided to make his own super-ego and start finding a niche where he could. He’s only stalked the streets at night… until now.
Other: Alan/Trommel is very reserved. He’s a hard person to get to know. He has a side that’s open to everyone, easygoing, friendly enough, not all smiley, but not unfriendly, and he’ll chat for a while—but that’s it. Past that, he’s pretty closed. He doesn’t really know what to do with his powers right now, music is one of the only things that really matters to him at all, though he can appreciate art of any kind. He wants to make a difference, somehow, but he doesn’t know what difference, or how, or why.
