This is the commercial part of the Downtown area, where you can find small stores that sell all kinds of things from clothes to plushies and souvenirs.
This is a very busy area, and many people go here to sit in one of the many small café's and restaurants also here.
Most of this area is designated pedestrian only, and it's a very safe place to walk around.

Kaylee arrives at the shopping area from the station after a short walk, and hops around the stores for a bit. Her general impression of the people is mixed: some people are happy, some are just so-so, and a few of the ones she bumps into are down. As she moves around the area, she buys some things, like a teddybear plushie, a new scarf in yellow colours, some small doodads for her parents... She has a cup of coffee and lunch on one of the restaurants, and sets out for the station again at about three o'clock.

A droning newscast is playing on the widescreens over the shopping plazas of Mercury's malls, and on TVs across the country, before it is interrupted by an emergency broadcast
The message is voice-only, but it's synthesized malice is recognizable as Cordite, who'd terrorized Mercury for months, then dropped off the face of the Earth.
'Greetings, America, greetings, those that are worthy, and those that are not.
I am Cordite. You know me as a villain, a taker of lives and a destroyer of livelihoods-- a vagrant, a criminal, a murderer.
I do not dispute this, for in my career I have spilt the blood of hundreds, and supplied the means for the demise of thousands. This is true, all of it, and though I am many things, I am not a liar.
Yes, for many of you, this is all that I represent to you, a smear of blood upon your gall-less lives, a dash of color in a sea of the pedantic. The other things-- things that, perhaps, matter when revealed-- they don't bother you. You are content with the tree and see not the roots which extend deep into your own cancerous hearts, the depths that we call America.'
Even sythesized, his voice spits the word.
'America, land of the free. America, land of the noble. America, land of the fair, the open, the kind, the strong, the new!
What am I, America, if not the sum of your failings? Do you know me? Know my face? Know my anguish, and that of my peers? Did you know it was I, Cordite, dumped into the sewers of your America , abducted by your own government, who was entombed within the very wreck that lies, a testament to your sins, and, hah! ignored as such, in this city's very bay! It was I who was twisted by a program which did you not pay for? By officials that did you not vote into office? Supervised, by men whom did you not pay to torture for your security, so long as you did not see the grotesque bodies that left the compound upon which I was raised?
You are shallow, America! You abandoned the Jews in Zion to the knives of their neighbors when you had foolishly gave them a home to sate your ego! You left the region to implode-- for it carried no longer anything of worth for you. You forgave, no, ignored!-- those that perpetrated my own sins, even when I burned your city for a whole week! They sit now, at government jobs, in corporate offices, scurrilous and stained-- alive! You will vote, you will forgive, you will follow the law to its useless letter so long as you are separated from your actions' consequences by the thin film of bureacracy-- and now, you crowd at the footheels of those that are your betters, those gifted with great powers, and drag them to the earth in the name of your evil equality.
But you have another side, America. A sullen, oppressed side, born of alien nations, born of broken towns, born, as I was, of callous disregard and selfishness.
All you broken! All you sullen, burning with anger! All you crushed by a nation that forgot you, all you disregarded, all you persecuted, and all you still willing to fight! Be glad, for there is a WAR upon us! A WAR I shall take to the deepest depths of the the poisoned soil, to cleanse by fire! So seek me, you broken, sullen, forgotten, persecuted! Let not the weight of the weak, the cowardly, the fat, the dishonest, and stupid hold us back any longer! Join me, and we shall cleanse this America, from the bottom-- to the top!'

Jared T. Cale was having a nice solitary lunch at the mall when the broadcast emerged. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the screen even as he continued to take bites of his sesame chicken. His face showed no sign of his reaction to the hoodlum's words.
When he has finished eating he throws away his trash, grabs his briefcase, and leaves the mall.
"Back to justice" he mutters to himself.

========New RP begin======== date: around November
Kaylee entered the shopping district withher bags on hand, and a foldable cart in the bag. She needed to buy a new computer terminal for her home, her old one had given out a few days before. She was already missing her net connection, and mails were probably piling up slowly. She's wrapped herself into a good sweater and a pair of blue jeans for the occasion. She still didn't like going out into crowded areas... it was a risk she had to take. She checked out the electronics stores for anything interesting, and made a mental note to also stock extra food for Fourteenth, who was still in her guest room. Also, she'd need Christmas decorations... those should be for sale by now. At least, judging from all the stores glittering and glinting with tinsel and plastic pine-drapes.

Just as Kaylee starts swiping her card to pay for what she wanted to buy, two men with bivouac masks run into the stores with guns raised.
"DON'T MOVE! EVERYBODY ON THE GROUND!" One of them yelled. As people cried and hastily huddled on the floor in terror, his companion walked up to the counter and pointed his gun at the clerk. After some fumbling he procured a bag and held it out for the clerk to fill.
"Open up the drawers, and gimme all the money in the register!" He fumbled around a bit, and procore
