Citizen (Adult)
Name: Malben (Dr Benjamin Pengrast)
Gender/Sex: Male
Age: 38
Height: 6' 0
Physique: Wiry
Hair: Red, though greying a little now.
Eyes: Brown
Clothing description: A very old and battered suit, usually with some sort of an apron over the top of it (when he's working).
Occupation: Doctor
Home City: Blackwork
Housing location: 119 Dempsey Street
Backstory:
Ben Pengrast was presented with a very simple choice, growing up. Join the military, like his mother, or become a doctor, like his father (There were other options, of course, but those were the ones which he was pushed most strongly towards). Having more liking for trying to patch people up than blowing holes in them, he decided to follow in his father's footsteps, enrolling in medical school as soon as he was old enough to (having passed the exams with ease thanks to hours of study).
Once there he found he had a talent for the nuts and bolts of the business - the 'stitching people up' side - but that his bedside manner left something to be desired. This led to him being nicknamed, first as 'Grouchy Ben' (to differentiate him from 'Tall Ben,' 'Short Ben', 'Weird Ben', 'Ninja Ben', and all the other Bens around the place) and then, in his second year, 'Malben' (thanks to a friend who thought Latin puns were the last word in wit). Lame as the joke might have been, the name stuck and, by the time he graduated, anyone asking for 'Ben Pengrast' would have been met with blank stares by the majority of his colleagues.
During this time he also acquired a reputation for being a dedicated worker - a little too dedicated, considering the fact that he decided sometime around the middle of his first year that sleep was only necessary in exceptional circumstances. This led to constant jokes about his being a super, as it seemed no ordinary human could possibly survive working the hours he appeared to. It still does, as a matter of fact, but, physically, he is and always has been as ordinary as they come.
Given his bedside manner (or lack of it), it's no surprise that Malben decided to set up on his own after a few years of working in the system. And, oddly enough, once word got round, he started to get patients. Patients who, over the years, have come back. Because even if Malben does rant at them, yell at them and, in extreme cases, threaten to poison them if they disrupt their treatment (a threat he has yet to carry out), he's a damn good doc. And, what's more, he doesn't ask questions.
It's rumoured that Malben once had a wife and a daughter, but, as enquiries into this are met with a stoney silence, no-one's ever been able to discover if there's any truth in the story.
Other: Malben's dark skin and red hair mean he's often the subject of jokes - usually along the lines of being accused of dyeing his hair (an accusation he strenuously denies, pointing out that if he did dye it, what would be the point of dyeing the grey into it?).
