Some distance away, maybe a hundred feet or so, a youngish man enters the park, attracted by the smell of food and atmosphere. Hands in the pockets of his loose-fit jeans, he is whistling a tune that seems to be either Shenandoah or Amazing Grace, and slides back and forth between the two with ease. He looks rather thoughtful, but takes in the scenery carefully anyway-- this is Mercury City, and it's not a good idea to let oneself be unobservant, he reminds himself. As he nears the grill, the whistling drops in volume, subsiding to background noise.

Palmer lets the twins do their own introductions, one reason being that Jamie is now urgently tugging on his arm, in a familiar fashion.
"Hey guys... sorry to interrupt, but we'll be right back." He looks around for the nearest restrooms, having to pass by the food again on the way. Oh, the joys of parenting...
On the way back, they pass Alan, who seems to be meandering.
Palmer issues a greeting. "Hi there. Can I help you with anything?"

Cordite raises an eyebrow. 'I do something wrong?' "You don't need to do something wrong to have friends, son - just... think about it, okay?" Gabriel says, sparing him one last glance before walking back to the group.

It takes Alan a second to register the voice, but he quickly snaps out of his thoughts to grin cheerfully at the man. "Hi. I'm just passing through, actually. Is this whole thing free?" His stomach nearly growls, but he absorbs the sound, annoyed with himself.

His stomach nearly growls, but he absorbs the sound, annoyed with himself. Palmer replies, "Yes, the food is free, so help yourself! It's all paid for by the Mercury city government." "If you'd like to stay a bit and join the bunch of us, we're just over there." He points in the group's direction, idly wondering what the old man and the Asian teenager were talking about.

Alan hesitates for only a moment before smiling gratefully. "Thanks! I most definitely will."
Piling a plate high with food, mostly potato salad, and other, more central, dishes around the edges, he heads over for the table of people cheerfully.

Palmer returns to the group, following Alan.
On their way, he introduces himself. "I'm Daniel, and this here is Jamie. Is this your first time in Mercury City?"

Alan smiles at Jamie, then turns to Palmer, extending the one hand that isn't occupied holding the plate. "Nice to meet you, Daniel-- Jamie," smiling down at the girl. "Well, I came through once, a few years back, but only spent a few minutes in the station. So pretty much, yeah. D'you live here?"

Jamie waves back at the smiling man.
Palmer replies. "We live in Mercury, yes. How long are you gonna be around here? I could show you around the city, if you'd like."

Alan shrugs. "Actually, my original plan was to just figure out where this store was; they have a part I need for a repair." He grins. "But then I saw this, and the smell was too much to resist."
He pulls a scrap of paper from his pocket as he speaks, the words Apollo's Bell written on the top, and scrawled beneath, "trill keys: three/ circlet for bell/ polish (the good stuff)"

After walking around the town for some time, Kaylee comes upon the park. She walks into the crowd with her hands stuffed in the pockets of her jeans, careful to keep her long-sleeved, long-necked but thin shirt in place so she won't touch people too much. The smell around is good, and she stands there looking where she'll grab a bite to eat.

"Today at a hotdog grill less than a half-hour ago to my best knowledge," answered Arella with a smile, "Although, given he says he lives in our building, we might have run into him sooner at the local laundry mat without our knowing. There's *alot* of people in this city, whole lot more than we're used to before moving here." "Oh, what building is that?" Margaret asks curiously. "It always seems to be the case in the city that you don't know who your neighbors are."

That's at a plaza not too far from here. You could take the bus, or even walk there, but it might be a bit far for that." Palmer gives the directions.

Kaylee follows her nose to a nearby grill roasting chicken-kebobs. she carefully accepts two sticks from the griller, nudging his hand in the process and getting quite an extensive flash of the party so far. Quickly thanking, she scuttles off again for a place to sit, sticks in hand and nibbling on the first. they were really good.

Alan grins widely. "Ah, thank you! I'll probably walk-- I tend to have awful luck with public transportation."
He takes a seat on an unoccupied patch of picnic table, where Andrew had been sitting, and reaches hungrily for his burger.
"Thank you, for the directions," he says, as he finishes chewing the first colossal bite.

In the evening, Kaylee decides that now would be a good time to go home. Her stomach was full, and she took a couple hotdogs and kebobs for Fourteenth home so he could have a hot meal too - though she'll probably have to microwave it after the trainride. Setting out to the maglev station, she returns home.
