She freezes. The question she'd been dreading.
"I..." she's clearly uncomfortable, but she knows that she has to explain. "I'm a psychometer. When I touch something... its history becomes known to me. Details. chronological orders included. It´s a horrible ability." She looks away from him and shuffles a bit closer to the stairs. "I don't want to know what people think. I don't want to know what they ate last evening, what they did with their wife and that they killed a young child..." She shivers at the memory of one of the people she'd come into contact with.
"All of it."
She keeps silent for a while.

Fourteenth nods, and quietly goes to clean up what he'd left around. He exhales in relief when he's out of sight.
That was lucky.
He's amazed, really, how things turned out. He was sure he'd be spurned, and honestly, he wouldn't have been that bothered. But now he had a place to stay. For now, anyway. He knows he'll have to leave-- THEY might come.
The fluttering wings of Michael can be heard behind him.
'I hope you don't regret this.'
Fourteenth mutters.
'Me too.'

Kaylee quickly flutters off to her own room, and dumps her bag in the corner.
'Why, you silly girl, why did you let him stay? He's dangerous, he's probably immortal or something like that... he has a gun. He kind of smells.' She ground her teeth together. 'At least it doesn't look like he's been in my room... but he's plundered the supply closet. I'll have to do shopping tomorrow.'
... 'I wonder if he has a job...' Another problem suddenly appeared to her. 'Shit, I'll need to buy and cook for two now.'

A few days later
Kaylee gets home from the farmer's market early, not having seen Fourteenth for a while. Nothing has stopped her from going about her usual buisyness so far, and she's relatively happy, humming songs as she stacks away things in the pantry.

In the afternoon, she reads the paper, and the first thing she sees is a notice about the 4th of July festival in Mercury City. 'Why not go out once in a while?' she thinks by herself. changing clothes to long jeans and a long-sleeved, jong-necked but thin shirt, she sets out with her small bag slung over her shoulder. Even she was allowed some fun, right?

In the evening, 4th of july
Kaylee returns home after the festival, her bag slung over her shoulder and a plastic bag with food in her hand. She puts the bag on the dining table and puts away her shoes in the hallway, calling up the stairwell.
"Fourteenth? Are you inside? I brought dinner for you!"

Fourteenth throws his head round the corner, again unabashedly half dressed. He'd gotten used to walking around like that, fastidiousness had never been a part of his character. To him, the primary objective in his existence-- life was perhaps the wrong word-- was the bottomline; getting by.
Fourteenth chuckles a little bit.
'You didn't have to. You know I'm not a picky guy.'

"I don't care, you should eat a proper meal. I brought some chiken kebobs and some other stuff from the Mercury festival... I think there's some salad left in the fridge to go with it." She looked at the man, covered in scars, and one arm replaced by a prosthetic - he'd been through hell and back again. She'd only seen a small part of whatever crazyness he'd been involved in, but it had been enough to knock her into a six-week coma.
"If you need anything, just call me, m'kay? And... could you maybe... maybe... put on a shirt?" she asked in a small voice.
